A closer look: D-backs eight game win-streak against Dodgers ends

Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a baseball game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ September 1 loss against the Dodgers. Final score: Dodgers 2, Diamondbacks 1.

The good:

Tyler Skaggs looked impressive in front of his home town crowd in L.A. Skaggs threw five innings and gave up one run on six hits, while striking out three.

The rookie put up his lowest run total of his career, in his third start.

The bad:

The Diamondbacks struggled to put runs on the board again. Their only run came off of a solo home run from Justin Upton in the third inning.

Paul Goldschmidt singled to lead off the top of the ninth inning but would not be moved. Miguel Montero and Chris Young struck out, and Ryan Wheeler grounded out to end the game.

Noted:

Just a few pitches before Justin Upton’s home run Aaron Hill was thrown out stealing second. If Hill would have still been on base the Diamondbacks would have taken a 2-1 lead at the time.

Upton’s home run traveled an estimated 432 feet over the back wall in the Dodgers’ left field bullpen.

Coming up:

Wade Miley, 14-9 with a 2.85 ERA faces Chris Capuano, 11-10 with a 3.58 ERA Sunday at 12:30 p.m. as the Diamondbacks look to take the four game series 3-1 against the Dodgers.
