Arizona State guard Remy Martin announced on Thursday that he will not be returning to the Sun Devils men’s basketball program next season.

Instead, he will be pursuing his dream of playing in the National Basketball Association.

Martin thanked head coach Bobby Hurley and his parents to start off his long list of those he’s appreciative of for helping him get to this point in his career.

“I also want to thank the managers, the managers who’ve been helping me get better every single day,” Martin said in the video.

“I also want to thank the 942 Crew. You guys have been amazing since day one. … And I want to thank Ray Anderson and president (Michael) Crow for just allowing me to be myself, allowing me to be in a community and have fun, just have fun and enjoy college.”

Martin is one of the most storied players in Sun Devil basketball history.

The guard played four years in Tempe (2017-21) and became an every-game starter in just his sophomore year after being named the Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year as a freshman.

Martin averaged 19.1 points a game in each of his last two years at Arizona State en route to being named First-team All-Pac-12 in back-to-back seasons.

After leading the team in scoring as a senior, he moved into second place on ASU’s all-time assist leaderboard with a total of 466 dimes.

Unfortunately for the Sun Devils, the COVID-19 pandemic had extremely adverse effects on a team that seemed to be peaking at the right time as they headed into the 2020 Pac-12 Tournament as the No. 3 seed.

Not only did ASU not get a chance to see how far it could go, but the ensuing 2020-21 season was plagued by injuries and positive COVID cases that resulted in Hurley having to participate as a scout player in practice.

Martin becomes the 11th player from last year’s Sun Devils squad to be leaving the program and the third to do so to pursue an NBA career along with Josh Christopher and Marcus Bagley.
