Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Asdrubal Cabrera was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, while the team recalled outfielder Nick Heath from Triple-A Reno.

Cabrera suffered a strained right hamstring in the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday in a 5-1 loss to the Miami Marlins. He was expected to undergo an MRI on the hamstring Friday, D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said after the game.

The veteran singled to lead off the sixth inning against Miami and, two outs later, had a clean and surprising steal set up. But steps before he reached second base, the starting first baseman stumbled after taking an awkward step. He fell to the base safely but stayed on the ground.

After trainers looked at him, Cabrera walked off with help and appeared to still be in a significant amount of pain when attempting to walk.

The 15-year veteran is slashing .289/.393/.474 this season, his first year with the Diamondbacks.

While Cabrera has primarily played third base this season, he can play first. The depth at first is of greater concern with regular starter Christian Walker going on the IL with an oblique issue earlier this week.

Eduardo Escobar figures to take more starts at third base while Cabrera is out, while the versatile Pavin Smith could move from the outfield to first base for the time being thanks to the recall of Heath.

Heath was acquired in a mid-April trade with the Kansas City Royals.

Over 10 games with Arizona, Heath recorded five hits and batted .192 with one RBI, three walks and nine strikeouts.
