The Arizona Diamondbacks made a plethora of roster moves on Saturday.

The D-backs transferred outfielder Kole Calhoun to the 60-day injured list due to a strained left hamstring.

Arizona also placed right-handed pitcher J.B. Bukauskas on the 10-day IL because of a right elbow flexor strain.

In corresponding moves, the team has selected infielder Domingo Leyba and left-handed pitcher Joe Mantiply, and recalled RHP Yoan Lopez from the Triple-A Reno Aces.

During his pregame media availability on Saturday, manager Torey Lovullo said that catcher Carson Kelly and right-handed pitcher Chris Devenski would also be heading to the injured list.

The 26-year-old Kelly suffered a left great toe tuft fracture and has been placed on the 10-day IL retro to Friday, while Devenski was placed on the 60-day injured list due to a sprained right ulnar collateral ligament.

“It’s pretty painful, there’s a lot of swelling,” Kelly said via Zoom during pregame media availability on Saturday. “We’re just trying to do everything we can to get the swelling out.

“I don’t expect to be out long because it’s a fracture on the toe and you can’t really do much with it. But pain tolerance, continue to keep working with our medical team — they’re awesome — and just get back as soon as I can but also be smart.”

Kelly suffered the injury during Thursday night’s game against the Miami Marlins after fouling a ball off his foot in the first inning.

The injury only adds to the mounting laundry list of names that are on the IL for the D-backs just over six weeks into the 2021 MLB season.

“It’s unfortunate, you never want to see guys get hurt and it just sucks that it’s kind of all happening at the same time,” Kelly said. “But over the course of a long season, it’s a tester.

“It’s a tester for our guys and our team of what we’re made of. It’s going to be a battle going forward but I have faith in our guys and in our team to get us back to where we were at.”

The Diamondbacks host the Nationals in Game 2 of a three-game set, with D-backs’ Seth Frankoff going up against Washington’s Joe Ross.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. Catch all the action on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
