The Arizona Cardinals signed cornerback Tae Hayes on Monday.
Additionally, the team released safety Chris Miller and wide receiver Darece Roberson, bringing the roster to 88. Austrian tight end Bernhard Seikovits, who was allocated to the Cardinals through the International Player Pathway Program, does not count toward the roster.
Hayes tried out for the Cardinals during rookie minicamp this past weekend.
The 5-foot-9, 188-pounder spent time with the Miami Dolphins (two games) and Minnesota Vikings (one game) in 2020. He was also a member of the teams’ practice squads.
Hayes, 23, got his start with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Appalachian State in 2019.
He played one game for Jacksonville before he was released. Hayes was later claimed by the Dolphins and played in two games for Miami that season.
In six career games, Hayes has recorded 10 tackles, two passes defensed and a fumble recovery.
He joins a new-look cornerback room that features Malcolm Butler, Robert Alford and Byron Murphy following the departure of Patrick Peterson to Minnesota.
Eleven-game starter Dre Kirkpatrick remains a free agent, but recently visited the New England Patriots, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Due to the lack of depth at the position, the team added cornerbacks Marco Wilson and Tay Gowan through the draft, and signed undrafted rookie free agent Lorenzo Burns.
