Two days after Yoan Lopez was designated for assignment, the relief pitcher was traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Atlanta Braves.
The Braves tweeted on Saturday that Lopez, who has pitched for the D-backs over parts of the last four seasons, had been traded in exchange for outfielder Deivi Estrada.
Lopez started his D-backs career strong in 2018, when he posted a 3.00 ERA in 10 innings of work. He continued this performance the next year, his first full season in the bigs. In 70 appearances with Arizona in 2019, he had a 3.41 ERA and 1.137 WHIP.
Last season, he posted a 5.95 ERA in 20 appearances. This year, he had a 6.57 ERA in 13 appearances for the D-backs.
After starting the 2021 season in the MLB, Lopez was sent down to the Triple-A Reno Aces on April 29. He was recalled to Arizona on May 15 but optioned again on Thursday.
He will join the Braves’ Triple-A Gwinnett team.
Estrada led the Braves’ Dominican Summer League team with a .307 batting average in 2019. He had an on-base percentage of .433 and had nine stolen bases in 15 attempts.
According to MLB.com, the 20-year-old is expected to join the D-backs’ Rookie affiliate.
The Diamondbacks’ next game will be Sunday against the Colorado Rockies. First pitch is scheduled for 12:10 p.m. Listen live at 620 ESPN.
