The Arizona Cardinals signed punter Tyler Newsome to a one-year deal Tuesday morning.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

With the addition of Newsome, the Cardinals’ 90-man roster is filled out.

Newsome got his NFL start with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2019, signing as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Notre Dame. He was also a member of the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2020 offseason.

In four years at Notre Dame (50 games), Newsome punted 225 times for 9,909 yards, averaging 44 yards per kick. He set school records in both career punting average and single-game punting average.

He also made noise during his pro day with an impressive bench press showing.

Newsome joins a special teams unit that includes fellow punter Andy Lee and offseason addition and kicker Matt Prater.

In his 17th NFL season, the 38-year-old Lee punted 58 times for 2,600 yards, averaging 44.8 yards per kick in 16 games.

Lee, who enters his 18th NFL season, is an unrestricted free agent in 2022 after signing a one-year, $1.5 million contract in March.

The Newsome signing comes ahead of the Cardinals’ first voluntary OTA session on Wednesday.
