LISTEN: Derrick Hall, D-backs President & CEO

It doesn’t take an expert to notice the Arizona Diamondbacks are going through a little bit of a rough patch.

“I’m assuming that’s a rhetorical question, Doug,” Derrick Hall, President of the Diamondbacks said when asked how he’s doing to start off his Thursday-morning interview with Doug and Wolf on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM.

The team has lost nine straight to the Los Angeles Dodgers, culminating with the 7-6 loss Wednesday night. Overall the D-backs have lost five of their last seven games. But through the stretch, rookie Yasmany Tomas has been a bright spot.

He sure came up big for the D-backs Wednesday night.

Tomas singled off the wall in the first inning and a hit a home run in the fifth. He was robbed of a game-tying homer in the third inning when he sent the ball to the centerfield wall, only to have it end up in Joc Pederson’s mitt.

For the night, Tomas went three for five with two singles, a home run and two RBI.

“Yasmany had a great game,” Hall said. “He’s showing that moving him from third base to outfield still works and his arm is such a threat at any point in the game and he has fun.”

On the season, Tomas is hitting .331 with two home runs and 23 RBI.

Beyond his success on the field, Tomas’ personality, and towel dances, have provided a spark in the clubhouse.

“He is a player favorite,” Hall continued. “They love being around him. He doesn’t speak English but he has a lot of fun.”
