Diamondbacks’ Inciarte lands on 15-day DL, Dorn recalled from Reno

Though the Arizona Diamondbacks would win Monday’s contest in Los Angeles versus the Angels, the team would lose one of their most energetic players to injury.

In an attempt to beat out a throw to first base in the first inning, right fielder Ender Inciarte would pull up lame, clutching the back of his left leg in pain and grimacing in a way that let you know it was a touch more than a minor tweak.

D-backs manager Chip Hale said Monday that Inciarte was headed straight to the disabled list following Monday night’s game.

The injury has been officially called a strained left hamstring; an injury that’s far from crippling, but one that will take plenty of time and patience as Inciarte looks to recover.

Arizona announced Tuesday that they had recalled outfielder Danny Dorn from Triple-A Reno to take Inciarte’s place.

Dorn, who made his major league debut on April 21 against the Texas Rangers, went 3-for-9 with a double and two RBI in an earlier major league stint this season.

Dorn is hitting .426 with four home runs and 25 RBI in 39 games for Triple-A Reno this season.

The good news for the D-backs is they appeared to fare just fine without the services of Inciarte in Monday night’s win. Though David Peralta would go 0-for-4 after Hale moved him from left field to right, the D-backs did get an unexpected lift from Cliff Pennington, who spends most of his time in the Arizona infield but was forced to left field with Yasmany Tomas already penned in as the team’s designated hitter.

In Inciarte’s place, Pennington rose to the occasion, going to 2-for-3 with an RBI bunt single that provided an insurance run for the D-backs in the ninth inning after throwing out a greedy Erick Aybar in the sixth inning. Making Pennington’s day even more memorable was the fact it was his 31st birthday.
