Major League Baseball released the most recent standings in All-Star voting Tuesday and the D-backs’ first-baseman Paul Goldschmidt has close to a million-vote lead.
With 3,562,399 votes, Goldschmidt has a chance to be the first Diamondback to win a second fan election. Jay Bell, Matt Williams and Luis Gonzalez have all been voted in by the fans once. Goldschmidt was voted as a starter in 2014 and played in his first All-Star game in 2013.
In second place, NL West foe Adrian Gonzalez has 2,699,729 votes.
Goldschmidt leads the MLB in batting average with .366 and the NL in runs scored with 49. Since May 27, Goldschmidt has been batting .442 and reached base in 25 consecutive games with six home runs, 15 RBI and 20 walks.
Voting will continue for two more weeks and the 86th All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 14th at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
