The University of Arizona football program announced Wednesday it is planning to have 100% capacity for the season.

The decision, in conjunction with Pima County Health and the school, plans to resume the full capacity and tailgating in the fall at Arizona Stadium.

“Our athletics department has been deliberate in its phased approach to fan attendance throughout the spring, and this announcement of full capacity for 2021 football season is the exciting completion of our diligent process,” director of athletics Dave Heeke said in a statement. “Watching and cheering for Arizona Football in person is the foundation of our fan and student-athlete experiences. Southern Arizona rallies around home football games in the fall, and it represents the synergy between our program, the University of Arizona and the community.

“Game days create an electric atmosphere in and around Arizona Stadium, and it’s exciting to plan for that dynamic energy return to Southern Arizona this fall.”

Arizona’s latest change was allowing full capacity at the school’s home baseball and softball games for the final series of the season in late May.

For fan attendance at football games in the fall, the school’s mask guidelines will continue to be followed. Masks are required for those not yet vaccinated in spaces where proper physical distancing is not possible.
