Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner was placed on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation, the team announced ahead of Thursday’s matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers.
“He’s gonna not throw for a couple days and we’re hopeful that this is going to be a quick flip. That’s the discussions that I had with the medical team today,” manager Torey Lovullo said.
“I’ve yet to talk to Bum, obviously he’s not with us, but in communication with the medical team and they feel very encouraged about what the next steps could be. We gotta let him rest for a couple days and then we’ll pick it up from there.”
Bumgarner lasted just two innings in the team’s 8-7 loss to the New York Mets on Wednesday, allowing five earned runs on eight hits.
“We’ve had some grinding circumstances and we all know what they are,” Lovullo said. “We’re trying to build up around some of the tough times and create the best version of this team that’s going to go out and compete and expect to win baseball games every single day.”

– Lovullo on starting pitcher Zac Gallen:
“Everything that I’ve heard and the activity that he’s been giving us or the activity that’s been going on has been very encouraging. He’s feeling good. … Scheduled to throw a bullpen tomorrow … with an eye on getting on the mound and facing some hitters at some point in the near future if everything goes right.”
