The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Wednesday they have agreed on a two-year deal with Cliff Pennington.
The move means the sides avoided arbitration, though exact terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Pennington was acquired by the D-backs in October in a trade that also brought Heath Bell to the desert while seeing outfielder Chris Young head to Oakland.
Pennington, 28, played in 125 games last season for the A’s, and hit .215 with six home runs and 28 RBI. He scored 50 runs and stole 15 bases.
Although he is able to play multiple infield positions, Pennington is known for being a good defender at shortstop.
