Montgomerie checks out OK for chest pains at senior tourney

Jun 14, 2015, 3:25 PM

BELMONT, Mass. (AP) — Champions Tour points leader Colin Montgomerie checked out OK after heading to the hospital with chest pains during the Senior Players Championship.

Montgomerie said he felt the pains at the end of the third round on Saturday. He went to Massachusetts General Hospital on Sunday morning and was cleared by doctors in time to make it back to the Belmont Country Club for his 1:09 p.m. tee time.

The 51-year-old Scotsman said it was tough to navigate the roads in downtown Boston. He blamed the British for laying out the roads.

Montgomerie shot a 68 on Sunday to finish tied for third, nine strokes behind repeat champion Bernhard Langer.

Montgomerie entered the weekend atop the points standings and earned enough points to stay there.
