Arizona State is preparing to allow full fan capacity for football games at Sun Devil Stadium this upcoming season.

“Sun Devil Athletics has worked tirelessly to safely welcome fans back to our venues throughout the spring in a phased approached,” VP for university athletics Ray Anderson said in a press release Monday.

“We are moving forward with plans to have a full stadium when Sun Devil football begins on Thursday, September 2. We will continue to work closely with health officials to evaluate fan protocols and will have detailed plans to share with our fan base in the weeks leading up to kickoff.”

The Sun Devils kick off the season against Southern Utah.

ASU has been allowing fans back into sporting events since March, when the university allowed anywhere from 20-25% capacity for spring sports (baseball, softball, soccer and football’s final spring practice).

In May, the university announced it was expanding capacity to 50% for spring sporting events.

The update comes after the Arizona Wildcats announced their plans to hold games at Arizona Stadium at full capacity last Wednesday.

Last season, the Pac-12 enforced a fan ban due to the coronavirus pandemic, with only some family members allowed to attend some games later on in the season.
