Hinchcliffe to be grand marshal for IndyCar race in Toronto

TORONTO (AP) — Canadian IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe has been named grand marshal for Sunday’s race through the streets of Toronto.

Hinchcliffe, from Oakville, Ontario, has been sidelined since a life-threatening injury suffered May 18. He crashed while practicing for the Indianapolis 500 and a broken piece of his suspension pierced his upper left thigh and Hinchcliffe lost a considerable amount of blood.

Although he’s still recovering, he has received medical clearance to travel to Toronto to give the command “Drivers, start your engines,” to start the race.

Hinchcliffe won’t race in Toronto for the first time since he joined IndyCar in 2011.
