D-backs split the series with the Angels after 7-1 loss: By the Numbers

...

The Arizona Diamondbacks couldn’t match the Los Angeles Angels’ spectacular play on Thursday, losing 7-1 to split the interleague series.

Things started off promising — Allen Webster struck out Albert Pujols in the second and the first two innings ended on double plays. Two solo home runs in the third put the Angels up for good and a five-run sixth inning from Los Angeles put an exclamation mark on the game and ended Webster’s night.

Josh Collmenter came in for relief and pitched 2.2 innings and gave up the one run on three hits with one intentional walk and two strikeouts.

David Peralta and Nick Ahmed had consecutive doubles in the fifth for the D-backs lone score.

The number of runs allowed on five hits for Allen Webster in his second start and first loss this season. He kept things exciting through five but ran into trouble in the sixth. Mike Trout hit an RBI triple and then five straight batters reached base and five scored.

8

The Diamondbacks have had eight opportunities to reach .500 since their record was 8-8 in April and have lost every time.

9

C.J. Wilson struck out nine D-backs en route to his fifth win of the season. That’s a season best for Wilson.

28

For the first time in 28 games, Paul Goldschmidt did not reach base safely. His streak of 27 was the longest in the league. Chris Owings also broke his streak of eight games getting on base and both sluggers struck out three times in four at-bats.

3

The D-backs will have to sweep the series against the Padres to reach that elusive .500.
