The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned pitcher Addison Reed to Triple-A Reno Monday.
In a corresponding move, the team reinstated reliever Enrique Burgos from the 15-day disabled list.
The 26-year-old Reed began the season as the team’s closer after saving 32 games last season, his first with the team. However, this year has been a struggle, as he was removed from the closer role after blowing a save on May 13. Since then he has shown flashes of improvement, but Saturday allowed four runs on four hits in a 0.2 innings against the San Diego Padres. For the season, Reed has posted a 2-2 record with three saves, two blown saves and a 5.92 ERA.
Burgos, 24, appeared in 13 games for the D-backs earlier this season, earning two saves while posting a 4.61 ERA.
