Reed wins ARCA race in Illinois

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) — Ryan Reed took the lead on the 31st lap and held it the rest of the way in the 100-lap ARCA Series race on Saturday night at Chicagoland Speedway.
Reed, one of four drivers participating in a NASCAR Xfinity Series race later Saturday, started 28th after a crash in qualifying. But he drove his repaired Ford past Will Kimmel in the first turn on a restart and went on to the victory.
“I knew we had a car good enough to win,” Reed said in Victory Lane. “I’ll celebrate for five minutes and then be in the Xfinity car.”
ARCA standings leader Grant Enfinger finished second, 6.293 seconds behind Reed. He started last after an engine change following qualifying, and climbed through the field, grabbing the runner-up spot on the 88th lap.
Enfinger will retain the series lead over Tom Hessert, who finished 10th for his worst finish in five races.
Pole-sitter Cody Coughlin blew a tire on the 25th lap and was placed 26th in the 30-car field. Outside front row starter Daniel Suarez’s race ended when his engine caught fire on lap 65. He climbed from the car on the backstretch unhurt.
Reed was unchallenged on the final restart on lap 72. He took the bottom lane, as he did when he grabbed the lead from Kimmel, and increased his lead on almost every lap.
