Arizona Cardinals’ quarterback Kyler Murray has cracked the top 10 in Chris Simms’ Top 40 QB Countdown for NBC Sports.
Murray comes in rated as the seventh-best quarterback in the game, as Simms unveiled his updated list on Wednesday on the Chris Simms Unbuttoned podcast.
“Wow, where to start? I’m not sure if there’s anybody that has more of an effect on their team’s success on their offense than Kyler Murray. That’s a bold statement. Not saying he’s the best quarterback in football, but man, does he have a tremendous effect because of his God-given talents to what their team is…Arizona is the number seven team in football in running the ball? It’s because of one guy. Everything on their offense is predicated around the talents of this guy.”
The NBC Sports personality went on to say that the Cardinals quarterback has “got a rocket for an arm and he’s cool and calm under pressure. He’s different that way.”
In 2020, Murray finished the season with 3,971 passing yards and threw 26 touchdowns as he completed 67.2% of his passes.
The Cardinals quarterback excelled in the run game for Arizona last season, as he rushed for 819 yards, second-most amongst quarterbacks.
He also ran it into the endzone 11 times for the Cardinals.
Murray finished the season with more rushing yards than Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (803), the Ravens’ J.K. Dobbins (805) and the Texans’ David Johnson (691).
Only Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson finished with more rushing yards amongst quarterbacks in 2020 with 1,005 yards.
Murray also finished ahead of a couple of NFC West quarterbacks such as Matthew Stanford (No. 8), Jimmy Garoppolo (No. 21) and Trey Lance (No. 38) in Simms’ top 40 quarterbacks list.
Seahawks’ Russell Wilson is the NFC West highest rated quarterback on Simms list, coming in at number five.
Simms will announce his final four quarterbacks rankings on Monday, on his Unbuttoned podcast.
