Report: Sacramento Kings could be interested in Phoenix Suns’ Eric Bledsoe

Phoenix Suns general manager Ryan McDonough has stated he didn’t “dangle” point guard Eric Bledsoe in a trade as was reported last week.

But the trade rumors surrounding the 25-year-old point guard just won’t go away.

Sean Deveney of Sporting News is reporting that another team in Phoenix’s division could have interest in dealing for the guard.

The Kings, one source said, are expected to express interest in Bledsoe. While Sacramento has been buried in rumors involving center DeMarcus Cousins, a league executive said the Kings have been far more focused on improving the point guard position. The Kings started Darren Collison at the position, but would like to move him into a backup role. And if Sacramento keeps Cousins, bringing in his former Kentucky teammate and good friend surely would help to keep him happy.

Phoenix, who signed Bledsoe to a five-year, $70 million contract extension last summer, will reportedly sign guard Brandon Knight to the exact same contract.

Bledsoe played 81 games for Phoenix in 2014-15, averaging 17.0 points, 6.1 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game. He has four years and $57 million remaining on his contract.

Despite the reported Kings interest, Deveney says Phoenix will likely hold tight to Bledsoe and remain patient this offseason until free agency.

The more likely scenario, though, will have the Suns approaching the Bledsoe situation with patience. There is more cap space available out on the free-agent market this summer than there is talent, and that could leave some teams desperate by mid-July, when the first wave of top free agents signs, and few players are remaining.

Free agency will open Tuesday night at 9 p.m., Arizona time.
