With LaMarcus Aldridge apparently in a meeting mood, particularly after taking a second meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday after reports from the free agent forward’s camp suggested that Aldridge had all but eliminated the Lakers from consideration, sources indicate to The Oregonian‘s John Canzano that the San Antonio Spurs are also seeking a second meeting with the league’s top uncommitted free agent this offseason.

According to his source, Canzano also indicates that Popovich will in fact be in sunny Southern California Friday, as San Antonio is widely believed to be in the driver’s seat to sign the 6-foot-11 post with a decision from Aldridge expected soon.

There is now a tweet with a picture to confirm the second meeting took place.

On Thursday, Arizona Sports 98.7 FM‘s John Gambadoro tweeted that he’s hearing that the Spurs and Phoenix Suns have emerged as the two favorites to sign Aldridge. ESPN.com senior writer Ramona Shelburne followed with a tweet of her own backing up that assertion.

The Suns have made significant moves within the past 24 hours in an effort to clear salary cap space for Aldridge, who would command a max-level contract, by trading forwards Marcus Morris, Danny Granger and Reggie Bullock to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for a future second round draft pick.
