Marcus Morris ready to ‘forget Phoenix,’ move on from Phoenix Suns

Marcus Morris addressed his move away from the Phoenix Suns during his introductory press conference with the Detroit Pistons on Friday.

“I wouldn’t say stunning, but in Phoenix, I would say I didn’t have a great opportunity,” Morris told the Detroit Free-Press.

“I kind of wanted to play with my brother so much that I kind of took away from myself. I didn’t think I had an opportunity to get better. I don’t think I had the chance to grow as a player over there.”

Morris started 35 games for the Suns last season. He averaged 10.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists for the Suns.

“For them to trade me without consent or telling me was like a slap in the face, because of the contract I took from those guys and the money I took from them,” Morris told the paper.

Morris and his brother Markieff signed extensions with the Suns last summer. Marcus signed for four years $20 million while Markieff signed for four years and $32 million.

“Everybody knew how bad I wanted to play with my brother. Phoenix knew. I’m happy to be here. I’m a Piston. I’m a ‘Bad Boy.’ I’m ready to get started,” Morris said.

Morris was asked at the press conference about his reaction to the trade.

“I didn’t know it was going to happen,” Morris said. “It was kind of up in the air.”

“It’s fine too. At the same time it’s a business, so forget Phoenix, I’m here in Detroit.”
