Home run derby breaks out at Coors Field in D-backs loss to Rockies: By the Numbers

The only thing stopping home runs Tuesday night in Denver was other stuff falling from the sky — rain — and that only lasted 38 minutes.

There were eight home runs hit between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies in the home team’s 10-5 win.

The Rockies accounted for five of those — two by clean-up hitter Nolan Arenado.

It would be Diamondbacks’ starting pitcher Chase Anderson’s worst performance of the season. His final line read 4.2 innings, eight runs given up on eight hits and three walks.

The Diamondbacks are now 0-10 in their last 10 attempts at trying to get to .500. The last time the team was at .500 was April 24.

Balls flew freely through the thin air in the Rocky Mountains. The Diamondbacks started the longball fight with back-to-back home runs in the second inning by Welington Castillo and Nick Ahmed. A.J Pollock would add another in the fifth.

The Rockies hit five. The aforementioned two by Arenado and Wilin Rosario, DJ LeMahieu and Brandon Barnes all added solo shots.

Each team recorded 11 hits in the game. For the Diamondbacks, both Pollock and David Peralta had three.

On the Rockies’ side, Arenado and three others had two. Outside of the pitcher, the Rockies only had one starter — Ben Paulsen — not record a hit.

The 4.2 innings by Anderson were the first time this season he has not completed at least five innings. After only getting two decisions in his first 11 starts he has now recorded a decision in his last three outings.

In three games at Coors Field Chase Anderson has allowed 15 runs.

The 38-minute rain delay in the second inning was the 15th time the Rockies have had an in-game delay or postponement at Coors Field this season.

Pollock raised his average to .310 and his on-base percentage above .350. Teammate Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-4. His average sits at .355 and still leads the Majors.

The Diamondbacks are now 34-36 on the season. The streak of not getting to the .500 mark continues as they are 0-10 when the opportunity arises.
