Arizona Diamondbacks OF Yasmany Tomas’ terrific first half: By the Numbers

The bar for this season’s award NL Rookie of the Year Award has been set high though the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Yasmany Tomas has put his name in the conversation.

After signing a six-year, $68.5 million deal this offseason, expectations were high for the Cuban-born player.

Despite not making the Opening Day roster and hitting a mere .235 through his first nine games, Tomas has turned in a monster first half.

The outfielder has batted behind Paul Goldschmidt in the lineup on a consistent basis through the last month, and is a key cog in the Diamondbacks’ lineup.

He ranks among the leaders in many offensive categories among National League rookies, and has set some franchise rookie marks at the midway point of the MLB season.

His hit total leads all National League rookies and ranks third on the team behind Paul Goldschmidt (107) and A.J. Pollock (100).


Tomas leads all National League rookies with 25 multi-hit games.


Number of hits in the month of May, which set a franchise rookie record.


His first half batting average, which ranks second on the team and leads National League rookies.


Leads all MLB rookies in three-plus hit nights, and currently sits ninth in franchise history.


Tomas’ batting average as the cleanup hitter in 32 games (42-for-129), which is the third-highest mark in MLB.


The D-backs rookie has notched 19 of his 35 RBI at the friendly confines of Chase Field.


Entering the All-Star break, Tomas has hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games (.306, 15-for-49 with three doubles, two home runs and eight RBI).
