The Arizona Diamondbacks have been awarded a Competitive Balance Round A selection for the 2016 MLB Draft, MLB announced Wednesday.
Arizona will have the fourth selection of the round, which will consist of six picks in between the first and second rounds of the draft.
The round will be opened by the Cincinnati Reds, followed by the Oakland Athletics, Colorado Rockies, the D-backs, the Miami Marlins and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Competitive Balance Round B consists of six selections made after the second round by the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers, Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays.
The teams are selected through a Competitive Balance Lottery, which was agreed upon through the latest collective bargaining agreement in 2012.
The 10 teams with the lowest revenues and 10 clubs in the smallest markets are entered into the lottery for Round A. Those who aren’t selected into Round A are entered into a second lottery for Round B.
