Yotes continue with offensive push in Draft’s second day

The Arizona Coyotes added four more forwards and two goaltenders Saturday in the second day of the 2015 NHL Draft.

The Coyotes began the day by selecting right winger Christian Fischer with the second pick in the second round, 32 overall.

Fisher, 6-foot-1, was ranked fifth on Team USA’s U18 team with 31 goals, 33 assists and 64 points in 66 games. The Chicago native’s 31 goals placed him third on the club behind 2016 draft prospects Auston Matthews and Matthew Tkachuk.

Fisher recorded two goals, an assist and three points in four games with Team USA’s U18 team that finished second in the U18 Five Nations Tournament. He has committed to the University of Norte Dame.

The Yotes had four third round selections and picked up the 76th and 83rd picks in a trade with the Calgary Flames in exchange for the 60th pick.

Arizona selected defensemen Kyle Capabianco with the 63rd pick overall in the third round. Capobianco, 17, of Mississauga Ontario recorded 10 goals, 30 assists and 40 points in 68 games with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League. The 6-foot-1, 178 pound Capobianco won the bronze medal with Canada’s 2015 Under-18 World Junior Championship.

The Coyotes added Adin Hill with the 76th selection. The 6-foot-4, 198 pound goaltender was 31-11-1 with a 2.81 goals against average and had a .921 save percentage in 46 games for the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League.

Forwards Brendan Warren and Jens Looke rounded out the Coyotes third round selections.

Warren was the 81st overall pick. He totaled 17 goals, 17 assists and 34 points in 52 games as a member of Team USA-U18 team. Warren, 6-foot, 191 pounds from Carleton Michigan collected 13 goals, 26 assists and 39 points in 53 games for Team USA’s U17 team. Warren has committed to the University of Michigan.

Looke, a native of Sweden was selected with the 83rd selection. He had two goals, four assists and six points in 43 games with Brynas in Sweden’s top league. The 6-foot 180 pounds, 18-year-old Looke was the youngest player on Sweden’s World Junior Championship team where he scored three goals.

In total, the Coyotes selected six forwards in the draft including Saturday’s first round selections in Dylan Strome and Nicholas Merkley. Arizona added forward Conor Garland with the 123 pick in the fifth round.

The 5-foot-8, 163 pound Garland registered 35 goals, 94 assists and 129 points in 67 games for the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The 19-year-old native of Scituate, Massachusetts led the league in points, assists and power-play assists and was the co-recipient of the Canadian Hockey League’s Sherwin-Williams Top Scorer Award as he was tied with Strome.

Garland follows in the same footsteps as Chicago Blackhawks forward, Patrick Kane in becoming the second American player to win the award.

The Coyotes concluded the draft by selecting goaltender Erik Kallgren, 18, with the 183rd pick in the seventh round. Kallgren, 5-foot-11, 157 pounds from Sweden had a 1.75 goals against average and a .936 save percentage in 34 games last years.
