Diamondbacks release Rod Barajas

As Opening Day nears rosters all across Major League Baseball will begin to take shape, meaning some players who have been around for spring training will be sent packing.

One such player is Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Rod Barajas, who the team released Monday.

Arizona will look to enter the season with Miguel Montero and Wil Nieves as its catchers.

Barajas, 37, hit .290 with two home runs and five RBI this spring, and was looking to continue his career in the place where it started. He played for the Diamondbacks from 1999-2003.

He’s also played for the Texas Rangers, Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates.

In his career, Barajas has tallied a .235 batting average with 136 home runs and 480 RBI.
