The Arizona Diamondbacks placed outfielder Ketel Marte on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring on Monday.

Additionally, the team recalled pitcher Humberto Castellanos from the Triple-A Reno Aces.

“I think we have the most unbelievable medical team that I’ve ever been around and they felt very strongly that getting him back out there, getting him up off his feet was gonna be another point in time where he can test himself and see how he’s doing,” D-backs skipper Torey Lovullo said Monday. “He was injured and we got that evaluation, he’s gonna be down for a couple weeks.

“We got to find a way to get him back on his feet but no way do I feel like he was rushed. We’re always taking a conservative approach here and doing the right thing by the athlete and we certainly did with this situation.”

Marte left Sunday’s game against the San Diego Padres in the first inning following a line drive that could have went for extra bases. Instead, Marte pulled up with a stiff leg and grimaced after making the turn and retreating to first base.

It marked the second time in a week Marte left the diamond early due to his hamstring issue.

A hamstring injury earlier this season led to a stint on the injured list that kept him out of the lineup from April 7 to May 19.

Lovullo added the hamstring issue is considerably less severe than the one Marte suffered earlier in the season.

This season (37 games), Marte is averaging .370 to go along with a .974 OPS. He’s recorded 21 RBIs, four home runs and 12 walks, while striking out 21 times.

Castellanos is sporting a 3.24 ERA and a 1.080 WHIP in five games this season while striking out eight over 8.1 innings of work.

The D-backs will look to get back in the win column Monday night against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Tune to ESPN 620 AM at 7:10 p.m. for all the action.
