Gilles Simon will be playing in the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time.

The 12th-seeded Frenchman beat 2010 Wimbledon runner-up Tomas Berdych 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 Monday in the fourth round.

Simon has only once before reached the quarterfinals at a major tournament, getting that far at the 2009 Australian Open. And Wimbledon had been the 30-year-old Simon’s worst Grand Slam. He only got as far as the fourth round once before, also in 2009.

6:40 p.m.

U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic made his way into the Wimbledon quarterfinals by beating Denis Kudla of the United States on Monday.

Cilic won 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 on Court 3 to reach the quarterfinals at the All England Club for the second straight year.

In the next round, Cilic will face either Novak Djokovic or Kevin Anderson.

Caroline Wozniacki didn’t have much to say about former fiance Rory McIlroy injuring his ankle the week before the British Open.

After losing in the fourth round at Wimbledon on Monday, the Dane was asked if she had any message for McIlroy, who tore an ankle ligament playing soccer with friends. McIlroy ended their relationship last year.

The moderator then quickly broke in, saying: “We’ll stick to tennis questions.”

And with that, the news conference was over.

Andy Murray has made it to the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the eighth straight year.

The 2013 champion at the All England Club advanced Monday by beating Ivo Karlovic of Croatia 7-6 (7), 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 on Centre Court.

Murray became the first British man to the win the Wimbledon title since Fred Perry in 1936 when he beat Novak Djokovic in the final two years ago. He also won the U.S. Open title in 2012, but lost to Djokovic in this year’s Australian Open final.

In the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Murray will face unseeded Vasek Pospisil of Canada.

French Open champion Stan Wawrinka is still going strong at Wimbledon.

The fourth-seeded Swiss player advanced to the quarterfinals Monday by beating David Goffin of Belgium 7-6 (3), 7-6 (7), 6-4 on Court 1.

Wawrinka also reached the quarterfinals at the All England Club last year, but he has never been any further. To make it to the semifinals, Wawrinka will have to beat 21st-seeded Richard Gasquet of France on Wednesday.

The women’s quarterfinals are set, and Serena Williams will face two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka in Tuesday’s marquee matchup.

Williams is a five-time Wimbledon champion and is heading toward a true Grand Slam after winning the first two majors of the year. She is 16-3 against Azarenka overall, and 9-0 in Grand Slam matches.

Garbine Muguruza will play in the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time.

The 20th-seeded Spaniard, who reached the quarterfinals at the French Open the last two years, beat No. 5 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-4, 6-4 Monday in the fourth round.

Wozniacki is a former top-ranked player but has never gotten past the fourth round at the All England Club.

Muguruza will next face 15th-seeded Timea Bacsinszky on Tuesday.

Two-time Wimbledon semifinalist Victoria Azarenka is a win away from a third appearance in the last four.

The 23rd-seeded Azarenka advanced to the quarterfinals by beating 18-year-old Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 6-2, 6-3 Monday.

Azarenka, a two-time Australian Open champion from Belarus, has never reached the final at the All England Club. She’ll have to get past five-time champion Serena Williams in the next round.

Timea Bacsinszky has followed up on her French Open run with a spot in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

The 15th-seeded Swiss player rallied to beat Monica Niculescu of Romania 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 Monday in the fourth round.

Bacsinszky reached the semifinals at Roland Garros last month for her best showing at a Grand Slam tournament. She’s now 2-0 in fourth-round matches at major tournaments.

Agnieszka Radwanska, the 2012 Wimbledon runner-up, has reached the quarterfinals at the All England Club.

The 13th-seeded Pole beat former top-ranked player Jelena Jankovic of Serbia 7-5, 6-4 Monday in the fourth round. Jankvoic, who has never reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, beat defending champion Petra Kvitova in the previous round.

Still looking for a second Wimbledon title, Maria Sharapova has reached the quarterfinals at the All England Club.

The fourth-seeded Russian beat Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan 6-4, 6-4 Monday on Court 1 and will next face unseeded American CoCo Vandeweghe on Tuesday.

Sharapova won her first major title at Wimbledon in 2004.

Richard Gasquet is back in the Wimbledon quarterfinals after beating Nick Kyrgios.

The 21st-seeded Frenchman, who reached the semifinals at the All England Club in 2007, beat Kyrgios 7-5, 6-1, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (6) Monday on Court 2.

Kyrgios, a 26th-seeded Australian, reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals last year in his debut appearance.

Vasek Pospisil came back from two sets down to reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

The unseeded Canadian beat Viktor Troicki of Serbia 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 Monday in the fourth round.

Serena Williams has won.

The 20-time major champion beat older sister Venus 6-4, 6-3 Monday at Wimbledon to advance to the quarterfinals.

Both Serena and Venus are five-time champions at the All England Club, but Serena is on track for a true Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open and French Open this year.

With Madison Keys and CoCo Vandeweghe also winning Monday, it’s the first time three American women have reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals since Serena, Lindsay Davenport and Jennifer Capriati did it in 2004.

Richard Gasquet wasn’t happy about wasting two match points against Nick Kyrgios, smashing his racket in anger after dropping the third set of their fourth-round match.

Gasquet was up 6-4 in the tiebreaker but the Australian saved both match points before converting his fourth set point to take the match to a fourth. The Frenchman then slammed his racket into the ground and once more against his chair, breaking the frame.

Gasquet leads 7-5, 6-1, 6-7 (7) on Court 2.

Serena Williams has won the first set against older sister Venus.

The American sisters are playing in the fourth round at Wimbledon, with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals. Serena took the first set 6-4 on Monday on Centre Court.

Both Serena and Venus have won five titles at the All England Club, but Serena is on track for a true Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open and French Open.

CoCo Vandeweghe became the second American woman to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals Monday by upsetting French Open runner-up Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in straight sets.

Vandeweghe dominated both tiebreakers to win 7-6 (1), 7-6 (4) after the players traded breaks once in each set.

There will be three American women in the quarterfinals, as Madison Keys also advanced and the Williams sisters were playing each other on Centre Court.

Before Wimbledon, Vandeweghe had not been past the third round of any major.

Madison Keys has reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time.

The 21st-seeded American beat Olga Govortsova of Belarus 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 Monday at the All England Club.

Keys, who reached the Australian Open semifinals this year, had never before been past the third round at Wimbledon.

Wimbledon will hold a minute of silence at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the London bombings.

On July 7, 2005, several suicide bombings killed 52 people on the London transport network.

It will be the second minute of silence at this year’s tournament. Last week, the club fell silent to remember the victims of the Tunisia attack, which killed 38 people, including 30 British tourists.

It’s a good day to bring the golf clubs as well as tennis rackets to Wimbledon.

A number of top European golfers are due in the Royal Box on Monday. The lineup includes Miguel Angel Jimenez, Paul McGinley, Ian Poulter, Sam Torrance, Jamie Donaldson, Stephen Gallacher and Lee Westwood.

The list does not include Rory McIlroy, who ruptured a ligament in his left ankle while playing soccer, a week before the start of his British Open title defense.

It’s Manic Monday at Wimbledon and matches are about to get underway.

The craziest day of the two-week tournament at the All England Club has all 16 fourth-round matches on the schedule. Play on the outside courts will start shortly, while matches in the main stadiums won’t start until about 1 p.m.

One of the marquee matches, five-time champion Serena Williams against five-time champion Venus Williams, is first up on Centre Court. Andy Murray and Roger Federer will also play in the main stadium.
