Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen was placed on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring injury, the team announced on Saturday.

On Friday, Gallen was roughed up for two innings in a start against the San Francisco Giants, giving up three earned runs, five hits and three walks before being pulled for hamstring tightness.

Gallen said on Saturday that the injury was deemed a mild Grade 1 hamstring strain.

In a corresponding move, the D-backs called up catcher Bryan Holaday from Triple-A Reno.

Holaday batted .263 with seven home runs and 30 RBIs in 30 games with Reno.

According to the team, Holaday will wear No. 28.

For Gallen, a difficult season continues to grow more difficult.

Projected as a potential Opening Day starter, Gallen missed the beginning of the year after suffering a hairline stress fracture in his right forearm. He missed more than a month before getting the green light to rejoin the team in April.

Fast forward to a month later and the starting pitcher would be placed on the injured list yet again, this time with a UCL sprain. He would miss another month of baseball before returning to action on June 17, making three starts with little to no qualms.

Now, in his third season with the D-backs, Gallen will have to serve yet another IL stint before getting the opportunity to return to his earlier form.

Gallen began his career by setting an MLB record of allowing three or fewer earned runs in 23 straight games.
