The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Monday the team has claimed pitcher Jordan Weems from the Oakland Athletics.

The 28-year-old right-hander made his big league debut last season and has compiled a 3.93 ERA in 14 games of relief, striking out 22 in 18.1 innings.

Weems has struggled in his limited appearances so far this season, giving up three runs in 4.1 innings while walking three and striking out four.

He was drafted in the third round back in 2011 by the Boston Red Sox, spending his entire minor league career with the team before signing with the A’s prior to the 2020 season.

As part of the move, the D-backs designated left-handed pitcher Ryan Buchter for assignment.

Buchter signed as a free agent with the D-backs over the offseason and has struggled to a 5.52 ERA in 14.2 innings of relief.

It’s been a rough season for the D-backs bullpen, ranking worst in the league with an 8-21 record while culminating a second-worst 5.18 ERA.

The division foe Colorado Rockies have the league’s worst bullpen ERA at 5.44.
