The Arizona Wildcats have hired Chip Hale as the school’s newest baseball head coach, the university announced on Monday.

Hale will receive a five-year contract with the Wildcats.

The Arizona head coach returns to his alma mater where he played from 1984-1987.

The Wildcat’s newest manager was a part of the Arizona 1986 NCAA National Championship team that took down the Florida State Seminoles.

Hale was also inducted into the Wildcats Hall of Fame in 1994.

Hale brings with him 14 years of coaching experience. He got his first professional coaching start with the Triple-A Tuscon Sidewinders from 2004-2006.

During Hale’s three-year tenure, the Sidewinders went 91-53.

Hale then got the call from the big leagues and was a bench coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Mets, Oakland Athletics and Washington Nationals.

Hale made his return to Arizona and was named the team’s manager in 2015.

As manager of the D-backs, Hale went 148-176 in two seasons with Arizona.

Hale has spent the 2021 MLB season as a third base coach for the Detroit Tigers before accepting the head coach position with his former school.
