Mo’ne Davis to be honored by Phoenix Mercury at August game

The Phoenix Mercury announced Thursday that Mo’ne Davis is their honoree for the 2015 Woman of Inspiration.
Davis is fresh off her “Breakthrough Athlete” win at the ESPYs Wednesday and will accept the honor at the August 16 matchup against the Indiana Fever at US Airways Center.
“Mo’ne Davis’ story captures the attention and imagination of so many because her accomplishments transcend sports,” Vince Kozar, Mercury Vice President of Operations said in a press release. “Hers is a story about showing the world what is possible, athletically and otherwise, regardless of gender or age—and we think that aligns perfectly with our mission as a team, and with the WNBA’s as a league.”
Mercury annually honors a “Woman of Inspiration” as part of the WNBA’s Inspiring Women platform.
Davis became the first girl to earn a win and also the first to pitch a shutout in Little League World Series history last August. She is also the first African-American girl to compete in the Series and the first Little League baseball player to appear of the cover of Sports Illustrated, along with the first to earn an ESPY win.
Past winners include Robin Roberts, Billie Jean King, Picabo Street and Jordan Wieber.
