ASU kicker Zane Gonzalez was named to the Lou Groza Award preseason watch list for the 2015 season, lining him up for another run at the award given to college football’s most outstanding kicker.
The Sun Devil has made the award’s semifinalist list the past two seasons after hitting better than 80 percent of his field goal attempts in each of his freshman and sophomore years.
In 2014, Gonzalez went 25-for-30 on field goals, hitting 7-of-9 from 30-39 yards and 4-of-6 from 40-49 yards out. His most memorable performance came in a 19-16 win against Utah, when he hit the game-tying and game-winning field goals.
Gonzalez joins quarterback Mike Bercovici (Maxwell), receiver D.J. Foster (Maxwell), center Nick Kelly (Rimington) and cornerback Lloyd Carrington (Bednarik) on college football award watch lists.
Other Pac-12 players on the 30-man list of NCAA’s best placekickers are UCLA’s Ka’imi Fairbairn, Oregon’s Aidan Schneider, Washington’s Cameron Van Winkle and Utah’s Andy Phillips.
