ASU’s Mike Bercovici named to Wuerffel Trophy preseason watch list

ASU redshirt senior quarterback Mike Bercovici was named to the preseason watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy Wednesday.
The Wuerffel Trophy honors the “college football player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement
Bercovici, who was named a captain last season despite not being a starter, will continue in that role this coming season. Off the field, he is active with hospital visits, youth camps and school speaking engagements.
Bercovici, who also was named to the Maxwell Award preseason watch list this offseason, started three games last season and threw for 1,445 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The 6-foot-1 signal-caller set a NCAA record with 998 passing yards through his first two career starts.
He is also a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention who graduated in May 2014 with a bachelors of science degree in management. He is currently enrolled in ASU’s new Sports Law and Business program.
