Cardinals players give their best guess of what a haboob is

Those who have lived in the Valley long enough have come across a wall of dust known as a haboob.

The term often results in a confused look from not only people new to the area but also players who call the Valley home during the season.

New Arizona Cardinals and those who have worn the red for years were asked by the team’s social media in a video if they knew what a haboob was.

Nobody had a clue.

“Don’t set me up,” quarterback Kyler Murray laughed.

They took a shot at what it might be and suffice to say, they were a little off.

Chandler Jones, who has played for the Cardinals since 2016, thought it was a sitting area and later guessed it was an animal.

The team’s first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft Zaven Collins and newcomer J.J. Watt both thought it was a hat, while offseason acquisition James Conner guessed it was a cactus.

DeAndre Hopkins thought it was an Arizona dish, while Markus Golden guessed it was a cave and rookie Tay Gowan said it was a type of boat.

Malcolm Butler said it was something in the desert, so we’ll give half-credit there since in the United States it is most common in the southwest desert.

It occurs when very strong winds, often produced by thunderstorms, pull dust from the ground up into the air.

The weather event was once called a baboon by the late Pedro Gomez due to an autocorrect error, which honestly probably resulted in less confused faces than the actual word.
