The NHL Draft is set to begin on Friday at 5 p.m. at the NHL Network studios in New Jersey and the Arizona Coyotes will look to bolster their roster heading into the 2021-22 season.

The Coyotes did not initially have a first-round pick in this year’s draft after violating the NHL’s combine testing policy during the 2019-20 season, but acquired one on Friday in a deal with the Vancouver Canucks involving Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Arizona also lost their second-round pick last year as part of their sanctions.

Arizona does have a total of eight draft picks this year.

Here is a breakdown of the Coyotes complete draft order in the 2021 NHL Draft:

Arizona Coyotes draft pick order

Round 1: No. 9 (From Vancouver via Oliver Ekman-Larsson trade)
Round 2: No. 37 (from Ottawa through Columbus via Derek Stepan trade)
Round 2: No. 43
Round 2: No. 60 (from New York Islanders via Andrew Ladd trade)
Round 4: No. 107
Round 4: No. 122 (from Pittsburgh via Alex Galchenyuk trade)
Round 5: No. 139
Round 6: No. 171

Arizona finished with a 24-26-6 record (54 points) and nine points behind the St. Louis Blues for the final playoff spot in the West division in the 2020-21 season.

The Coyotes were active leading up to the draft as general manager Bill Armstrong made two trades over the weekend ahead of Wednesday’s Expansion Draft for the Seattle Kraken.

He made the blockbuster on Friday, with Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland going to Vancouver.

Arizona’s second-highest draft pick this year (No. 37) comes after the team traded away center Derek Stepan to the Ottawa Senators in December of 2020.

Over the weekend, the Coyotes traded goalie Adin Hill to the San Jose Sharks for goalie Josef Korenar and a 2022 second-round draft pick.

Additionally, Arizona acquired left winger Andrew Ladd from the New York Islanders in exchange for three draft picks. As part of the trade, the Coyotes will receive the Islanders’ 2021 second-round pick, a 2022 second-round pick and 2023 third-round pick.

The Coyotes’ second draft pick in the fourth round is part of the deal from 2019 that sent forward Alex Galchenyuk and defensemen Pierre-Olivier Joseph to Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defensemen Dane Birks and winger Phil Kessel.

On Thursday, the Coyotes acquired defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere from the Philadelphia Flyers in addition to two 2022 draft choices in the second and seventh rounds.
