Arizona Cardinals linebacker Dennis Gardeck was placed on the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Thursday.
Gardeck suffered an ACL injury in December against the Philadelphia Eagles that later required surgery. Gardeck in mid-June did not put a timetable on his return while head coach Kliff Kingsbury has said he was encouraged by the linebacker’s progress in the offseason.
In three seasons with Arizona after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Sioux Falls in 2018, the 26-year-old has amassed 34 combined tackles (28 solo), seven tackles for loss, 10 QB hits, seven sacks and two fumble recoveries in 44 appearances.
Gardeck is coming off of the best year of his career and for the first time played a role on defense. He was second on the team with seven sacks.
In 14 games, Gardeck played 94 snaps (9%) on defense and 315 snaps (71%) on special teams.
The Cardinals signed Gardeck, a special teams captain last year, to a one-year tender in the offseason.
