Former Arizona Cardinals quarterback John Skelton announced on Wednesday he is running for Tempe City Council.

“I want to ensure Tempe is a great place for everyone,” Skelton said in a video on social media announcing his candidacy.

“Whether it’s helping small businesses, protecting the quality of life in our neighborhoods, or tackling housing affordability – I’m running to be your voice on the City Council.”

Skelton in the short video emphasized his love for the Valley and, specifically, for the city of Tempe and his family.

He also mentioned his business Senior Helpers, which provides services for those with chronic diseases and companion services for seniors looking for assistance with daily activities.

Skelton, a fifth-round pick by the Cardinals in 2010, played on the team for three years and started 17 games over that span.
