Following three quarterbacks, including starter Kirk Cousins, landing on the COVID-19 list, the Minnesota Vikings are signing former Northern Arizona standout Case Cookus, reports NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The signing comes after Cookus had a workout with the team Monday.
Cookus played his college ball at NAU from 2015-19, where he was the starter his first season on campus.
He lit up the Big Sky in 2015, throwing for 3,117 yards and 37 touchdowns, good enough to win conference freshman of the year, as well as the Jerry Rice Award, given to the most outstanding freshman in the FCS.
The Lumberjacks quarterback unfortunately suffered season-ending injuries in 2016 and 2018, but had a big final year in 2019.
His final year in Flagstaff, Cookus threw for 4,114 yards and 31 touchdowns, with just seven interceptions.
Following his college career, he signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in April 2020, but was waived later in August.
Cookus was given another opportunity in the league in 2021 with the Denver Broncos, but it was short-lived.
The Broncos waived him just three days after his signing.
Now heading to Minnesota, Cookus gets another shot at playing in the NFL.
