Alan Faneca announces his retirement

The Arizona Cardinals might have yet another hole to fill via free agency this summer. This time at guard.

That’s because veteran offensive lineman Alan Faneca will announce his retirement Tuesday afternoon sources confirmed to Sports 620 KTAR and ArizonaSports.com

Faneca joined to the Cardinals last season after spending twelve seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets. He was voted to the Pro Bowl nine-times and was a First-Team All-Pro six times in his career.

In a statement his agent shared with ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Faneca said he decided it was time to leave the game.

“After a lot of thought I am announcing my retirement from professional football,” he said. “Playing in the NFL has been a childhood dream come true. Thirteen years later I have decided that it is time to move on.”

He began his career in 1998 as a first round pick of the Steelers, an organization that he won a Super Bowl with in 2005.

While Faneca only played one year in Arizona, he will go down as having one of the greatest mustaches in franchise history. His play on the field between the three franchises that employed him will most likely help him find his way to Canton, Ohio and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
