Cardinals’ Andy Isabella to miss Chiefs game, under COVID-19 protocols

Aug 16, 2021, 11:54 AM | Updated: 11:57 am

Arizona Cardinals receiver Andy Isabella will miss his team’s second preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday because he must sit out at least 10 days due to COVID-19 protocols, head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Monday.

Last Wednesday, the third-year receiver was placed in COVID-19 protocols for the second time in the past two weeks.

Isabella was among six players placed under the protocols on July 29. All of those players returned to practice four days later.

Players are put under the protocols if they test positive for coronavirus or are deemed close contacts with those who did. How quickly they return depends on whether they had the virus themselves and if they are vaccinated.

The Cardinals currently do not have any other players under COVID-19 protocols.

According to NFL.com’s Judy Battista, 91.7% of all the league’s players have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 15 teams have a rate of 95% or more of their players having received a shot.

Isabella, a 2019 second-round pick by the Cardinals, is heading into a crucial third season.

He made 21 catches for 224 yards and two touchdowns in 2020. This year, he and fellow 2019 draftee KeeSean Johnson are listed on the depth chart as backup outside receivers behind DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green.

Fourth-year man Christian Kirk is listed as the slot starting wideout, while rookie Rondale Moore is behind him on the depth chart.
