Arizona State senior defensive tackle Jermayne Lole will be having surgery for a tear in his right triceps, head coach Herm Edwards said Friday.

The expectation is that Lole will miss a few months and could be out the rest of the season. Edwards couldn’t speak on a potential timeline and if Lole was out for the remainder of the year.

It’s a significant loss for the Sun Devils defense. Lole is one of the best interior defensive linemen in college football, being named to the Outland Trophy watch list for the nation’s best lineman and First Team All-Pac-12 for the preseason.

In his sophomore season back in 2019, Lole had 72 tackles, the most by an ASU lineman since 2002. He also led the team with five sacks.

ASU had all of its defensive linemen return from last season, a unit that Lole was set to be the star man of.

The Sun Devils are less than a month from the start of the season, with kickoff for the season opener set for Sep. 2 against Southern Utah.
