After falling two wins short of an NBA title, the Phoenix Suns open their 2021-22 season with games against their first two playoff opponents from last season.

They open the year at home against the Denver Nuggets on Oct. 20. and follow that with an Oct. 22 visit to Los Angeles Lakers.

Both games tip at 7 p.m. MST and will be on ESPN.

Phoenix defeated the Lakers in six games in the first round of the 2021 postseason and swept the Nuggets in the Western Conference Semifinals.

The NBA on Tuesday released the first week of the 2021-22 schedule and also revealed its Christmas Day slate.

The Suns, who are coming off an NBA Finals appearance, will host the Golden State Warriors at Footprint Center on Christmas Day 2021, their first Dec. 25 game since 2009.

They aren’t the only Valley team playing on Christmas. The Arizona Cardinals will host the Indianapolis Colts with kickoff at State Farm Stadium at 6:15 p.m. that Saturday.

The league will release a full national television schedule on Friday at 12 p.m. MST.
