With the start of the 2021 NFL regular season less than a month away, Arizona Cardinals 2018 first-round draft pick Josh Rosen has been waived by the San Francisco 49ers, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

The 24-year-old was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cardinals, after they traded up with the then-Oakland Raiders. Arizona sent the No. 15, No. 79 and No. 152 picks of the 2018 draft to the Raiders who subsequently selected offensive lineman Kolton Miller with the No. 15 pick.

However, the Cardinals would move on from Rosen after just one season, selecting starting quarterback Kyler Murray No. 1 overall in 2019.

Rosen was traded to the Miami Dolphins prior to the 2019 season, where he only started three games, throwing one touchdown and five interceptions. The Cardinals received wide receiver Andy Isabella and the No. 153 overall pick in the 2020 draft from the Dolphins.

After spending time on Tampa Bay’s practice squad, Rosen signed with the 49ers at the end of 2020. In February, Rosen had signed a one-year extension with the team.

He was in a San Francisco quarterback room that features Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Both are competing for the starting job.

In the 49ers preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs’, Rosen was 10-for-15 with 93 yards and threw an interception in the red zone.

Rosen will now be looking to join his fifth NFL squad in just four years in the league.
