Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman J.J. Watt is expected to return to practice on Monday.
Watt told ESPN’s Lisa Salters of his planned return on the broadcast during Arizona’s 17-10 preseason loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday night at State Farm Stadium.
Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury confirmed what the defensive lineman said during his postgame press conference.
“It is, it is, yeah,” Kingsbury said of his expectation of Watt returning to practice on Monday.
“We expect him to come back which will be good for that defensive group, that defensive line unit to watch him work and be around him and just get in with the guys is going to be big for us.”
The former three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year has been sidelined since late July due to a hamstring injury.
Watt passed the Cardinals’ conditioning test on July 27, but has not participated in training camp since.
The defensive lineman has continued to reiterate that his focus is to be ready to go for Week 1 of the regular season on Sept. 12 against the Titans in Tennessee.
