The Phoenix Suns are asking for their fans to provide input on an in-the-works uniform concept based on ancient Aztec symbolism.
On Wednesday, the team released concept designs of a black-and-purple jersey alternate with the hopes of celebrating “the communities and cultures that support us through uniform design, in this case our Mexican and Mexican-American fans.”
The jerseys feature an Aztec sun stone on the chest, which sits behind a PHX insignia and the numbers.
Rays from the sun stone “represent emanating heat and unity, all originating from a single source, the Sun,” according to the release.
On the back of the jerseys is an Aztec death stone that “pays homage to fearless warriors even in the face of death.”
While the Suns fireball logo appears on one side of the pants, the other includes outlines of jaguar armor.
The Suns ask fans to leave their thoughts on the potential game jerseys on the team’s Twitter account @Suns.
