The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Monday that the team has recalled pitcher Sean Poppen and optioned pitcher Humberto Mejía to Triple-A Reno following Saturday’s start against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Mejía pitched six innings giving up eight hits, four earned runs and had three strikeouts while walking a batter in the 7-0 loss.
He pitched once previously this season, giving up six hits while striking out seven batters in five innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Mejía is 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA, striking out 10 batters over his 11 innings pitched.
He joined the D-backs organization during the 2020 campaign as a part of the trade that sent Starling Marte to the Miami Marlins.
Poppen is currently on his third team of the season after appearing for the Tampa Bay Rays and Pirates before being claimed off waivers by the D-backs in early August.
He has appeared in six games for the D-backs, posting a 4.05 ERA over 6.2 innings.
Poppen was drafted in 19th round by the Minnesota Twins of the 2016 MLB Entry Draft.
The relief pitcher has posted 11.1 innings pitched and a 5.56 ERA with the three teams combined in 2021.
