Gamers in the Valley might be hearing a familiar voice when playing as the Phoenix Suns in the latest NBA 2K video game that is set to release on Sept. 10.
NBA stadium announcers, including Suns public address announcer Vince Marotta, will be featured voices in NBA 2K22, adding new level of realism to the franchise.
In a trailer released by the NBA 2K YouTube channel, Marotta is featured at the 37-second mark.
Marotta, who is also a co-host on Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marotta, can now add video game superstar to his pristine resume.
He will be joined by other PA announcers from across the league, including Oliver Sedera (Brooklyn Nets), Kyle Speller (Denver Nuggets) and Eric Smith (Los Angeles Clippers), who served as PA announcers during games in the NBA bubble in Orlando in 2020.
While the game has been a staple in the NBA community since its original release in 1999, its popularity in the Valley rose last year when Devin Booker took down Suns teammate Deandre Ayton in the championship matchup of an NBA 2K20 players-only tournament.
It was used as a supplement to NBA coverage on ESPN when the season was halted due to COVID-19.
The 2K22 version of the game is set to feature Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks as its cover athlete.
Other special editions of the game will feature Dirk Nowitzki, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kevin Durant, Candace Parker and Rui Hachimura as cover athletes.
